The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-Earth is a PC real-time strategy game developed by EA Los Angeles. It is based on Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings film trilogy, in turn based on J. R. R. Tolkien's original novel. The game uses short video clips from the movies and a number of the voice actors, including the hobbits and wizards. It uses the SAGE engine from Command & Conquer: Generals and was released on December 6, 2004. The sequel, The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-earth II, was released on March 2, 2006. The online servers of The Battle for Middle Earth were permanently closed on December 31, 2010 by EA Games, due to the expiration of The Lord of the Rings gaming rights. The game is no longer on sale and not available for online play, however it is still possible to use the multiplayer function of the game via Virtual private network programs.;Representation tool,Image viewer;Perception,Document edition,Drawing,Construction;Image,Document,Multimedia document;;;; Steve_Chen;2013/01/13 14:04:22;Steve_Chen;Steven Shih Steve Chen is a Taiwanese-American internet entrepreneur. DirectDraw is used to render graphics in applications where top performance is important. DirectDraw also allows applications to run fullscreen or embedded in a window such as most other MS Windows applications. DirectDraw uses hardware acceleration if it is available on the client's computer. DirectDraw allows direct access to video memory, hardware overlays, hardware blitters, and page flipping. Its video memory manager can manipulate video memory with ease, taking full advantage of the blitting and color decompression capabilities of different types of display adapters. DirectDraw is a 2D API. That is, it contains commands for 2D rendering and does not support 3D hardware acceleration. A programmer could use DirectDraw to draw 3D graphics, but the rendering would be slow compared to an API such as Direct3D which does support 3D hardware acceleration. As of DirectX version 8.0, DirectDraw was merged into a new package called DirectX Graphics, which is really just Direct3D with a few DirectDraw API additions. DirectDraw can still be used by programmers, but they must use older DirectX interfaces (DirectX 7 and below). As of the release of the June 2010 DirectX SDK package, the DirectDraw header file and library are no longer included. DirectDraw has been deprecated since version 7 but is still included with DirectX, although updates are no longer made. Developers have been instructed to use textured quads in Direct3D for 2D graphics. Managed DirectX includes a managed wrapper for DirectDraw. DirectDraw is now replaced by Direct2D.;Representation tool,Image viewer;Perception,Drawing,Construction,Document edition;Image,Document,Multimedia document;;;; SWI-Prolog;2013/01/13 14:04:22;SWI-Prolog;SWI-Prolog is an open source implementation of the programming language Prolog, commonly used for teaching and semantic web applications. It allows developers unfamiliar with programming languages such as Objective-C, or who don't want to build native applications using proprietary software development kits (SDKs), to use plain HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to build native-looking webapps. Originally known as iphonenav, iUI was created by Joe Hewitt and named by Kristopher Tate specifically for iPhone developers with the goal to turn ordinary standards-based HTML into a polished, usable interface that meets the high standards set by Apple's own native iPhone apps. It gave web applications running on Safari the look of a native application built with the iOS SDK. Currently, iUI supports most smartphones and tablets. Devices independently tested with the framework include: Palm Pre, HTC Dream/T-Mobile G1, HTC Magic/T-Mobile MyTouch 3G, HTC Hero/T-Mobile G2 Touch, Motorola CLIQ, Motorola Droid, Samsung Intercept, and all iOS devices. iUI has been used to develop a variety of web-applications. The project started in late 2006 with the creation of Connection Manager, which eventually became Wicd. Wicd aims to provide a simple interface to connect to networks with a wide variety of settings. Wicd will only automatically connect to wireless networks you have specified and will not automatically connect to an unknown network. Wicd supports a unique type of system for wireless encryption using the powerful wpa supplicant. Users can design their own templates, which can be used by Wicd to connect to a large variety of networks using any type of encryption wpa_supplicant supports. Wicd is split into two major components: the daemon, and the user interface. These two components communicate via D-Bus. This design allows the user interface to run as a standard user, and the daemon to run as the root user, so the user can change the wireless network without knowing the root password. The split interface/daemon design would also allow a person to write a new front-end to the Wicd daemon, such as wicd-qt. There are also other frontends available for many DEs such as GNOME, XFCE and fluxbox. Wicd is currently included in some distributions, such as Slackware, Zenwalk Linux, Arch Linux, Debian, and Gentoo Linux.;Image viewer,Representation tool;Document edition,Perception,Drawing,Construction;Image,Document,Multimedia document;;;Open source;Adam Blackburn, Dan O'Reilly, Andrew Psaltis, David Paleino Use_Case_Points;2013/01/13 14:04:22;Use_Case_Points;Use Case Points (UCP) is a software estimation technique used to forecast the software size for software development projects. It is often used with stress testing and is widely considered to be an important part of developing robust software. Robustness testing (also known as Syntax Testing, Fuzzing or Fuzz testing) is a type of fault injection commonly used to test for vulnerabilities in communication interfaces such as protocols, command line parameters, or APIs. The propagation of a fault through to an observable failure follows a well defined cycle. When executed, a fault may cause an error, which is an invalid state within a system boundary. An error may cause further errors within the system boundary, therefore each new error acts as a fault, or it may propagate to the system boundary and be observable. When error states are observed at the system boundary they are termed failures. This mechanism is termed the fault-error-failure cycle and is a key mechanism in dependability.;Processing tool,Compiler;Compilation,Computation;Executable code,Other artifact type;;;; Easy_Chirp;2013/01/13 14:04:22;Easy_Chirp;Easy Chirp is a third-party web-based Twitter interface. Wiki farms are not to be confused with wiki families, a more generic term for any group of wikis located on the same server. Prior to wiki farms, someone who wanted to operate a wiki had to install the software and manage the server(s) themselves. With a wiki farm, the farm's administration installs the core wiki code once on its own servers, centrally maintains the servers, and establishes unique space on the servers for the content of each individual wiki with the shared core code executing the functions of each wiki. Both non-commercial and commercial wiki farms are available for users and online communities. While most of the wiki farms allow anyone to open their own wiki, some impose restrictions. Many wiki farm companies generate revenue through the insertion of advertisements, but often allow payment of a monthly fee as an alternative to accepting ads. Use of AMSRefs allows for the retention of rich markup that makes references easier to reuse in other publishing environments, such as on the Web, in other book or journal formats, or with citation services. The package is available for free on the American Mathematical Society's website. The purpose of AMSRefs is to provide a simpler, more flexible way to use many of the bibliography and citation features that users of LaTeX and BibTeX have come to expect. AMSRefs has been designed to encourage the preservation of structured markup of the bibliography throughout the entire lifetime of a document, from rough draft to final archival version. It does this by replacing the unstructured . bbl file format of LaTeX by a fully structured format. The package is compatible with the showkeys, hyperref, and backrefs packages and implements the functionality of the cite package. AMSRefs provides that the bibliography style is controlled completely through LaTeX instead of being determined partly by a BibTeX style file and partly through LaTeX. The same data format is used in the database file and in the LaTeX document. Thus an AMSRefs-format database is a valid LaTeX document that can be printed directly. Also, an author can send an article with embedded references to a publisher without any loss of internal structural information about the entries. It is possible to use the AMSRefs package without abandoning ones existing BibTeX database files. AMSRefs may be distributed and/or modified under the LaTeX Project Public License, either version 1.3c of this license or (at your option) any later version.;Text editor,Representation tool,Construction tool,Image viewer,Text viewer;Writing,Construction,Perception,Text reading,Drawing,Document edition;Text document.,Document,Image,Multimedia document;;;; HouseholdHacker;2013/01/13 14:04:22;HouseholdHacker;HouseholdHacker is a YouTube channel and website that posts videos of various hacks, or quick solutions, to common everyday problems. The company was co-founded in 2003 by CEO Aaron Freeman and his father CFO Michael Freeman. SendThisFile has around 1.5 million users and has transferred over 40 million files. To use the service the file sender enters the recipient's e-mail address and message into the companys web form and then uploads the file to the companys servers. The recipient receives an e-mail notification with a URL download link. The company provides basic features for free and more advanced features for a monthly recurring fee. The service acts as a primary alternative to e-mailing large e-mail attachments that are typically restricted by e-mail servers due to their large size. Corporate e-mail servers such as Microsoft Exchange Server allow companies to set limits on employee e-mail attachment sizes and the email sender may receive a non-delivery report as result, signifying that their recipient could not be reached. No-cost hosted email providers such as Gmail will also restrict users file attachment sizes, which are currently set at 25 Megabytes per email. These limits are set by companies to reduce server load which can impact server performance. At the time, Pelehac was a sophomore cadet in the Class of 2007 at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. The video itself was much commented on and also served to familiarize the public with the concept of viral video itself. His roommate, Brian Stoops, used a candid camera to film Pelehac without the latter's knowledge. The video was at first shown to friends and was then posted on various Internet sites, which brought both of them widespread coverage. Pelehac danced to several songs, most notably Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now), a hit by C+C Music Factory from 1991. Pelehac was part of the Blackjack Squadron and became known as The Dancing Queen among his friends. In recognition of Pelehac's contribution to Academy morale, he was given a challenge coin by General Richard Meyers, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. To learn about the dangers of dancing in your dorm room (laughter) and yes, I've seen the video, joked Gates. So the next time your mirror beckons you to bust a move, remember the dancing cadet. In 2006, Internet Brands bought the trademark and servers and later introduced advertising to the website. This move met opposition from users, with many German and Italian editors leaving for a newly-established wiki, Wikivoyage. Wikitravel received a Webby Award for Best Travel Website in 2007. That same year, Wikitravel's founders began Wikitravel Press, a now-defunct project which published printed travel guides based on the Web site's content. The first print guides were released on February 1, 2008. In 2012, after a lengthy history of dissatisfaction with Wikitravel's host and owner, Internet Brands, it was proposed that the community at Wikitravel fork (split off) their work and editing activities from Wikitravel as permitted by the license of that site and together with the existing sites at Wikivoyage (a previous fork of Wikitravel some years earlier) merge to create a new travel wiki to be hosted by the Wikimedia Foundation, the owner of Wikipedia and a large range of other non-profit reference sites based upon a wiki community. The merge and move were endorsed by the editing community but opposed by Internet Brands who litigated against two users it accused of unlawful actions related to the proposal. The allegations were strongly rejected by the individuals and the (non-party) Wikimedia Foundation who stated the case was an example of a SLAPP lawsuit intended to deter and frustrate lawful conduct.;Construction tool,Asynchronous tool,Information management tool,Group tool,Wiki server;Construction,Asynchronous communication,Retrieving,Communication,Information management task;Wiki document,Document;;;; YouTube_Live;2013/01/13 14:04:22;YouTube_Live;YouTube Live was a 2008 event streamed live on the Internet from San Francisco and Tokyo. It is widely regarded by critics and game journalists as having helped popularize the genre on the PC, and having established the basic run-and-gun archetype for subsequent FPS games. It was created by id Software and published by Apogee Software. Released on May 5, 1992 for DOS, the game was inspired by the 1980s Muse Software computer games Castle Wolfenstein and Beyond Castle Wolfenstein. In Wolfenstein 3D, the player assumes the role of an American soldier of Polish descent, named William B.J. Blazkowicz, attempting to escape from the Nazi stronghold of Castle Wolfenstein. After the initial escape episode, the player carries out five other episodes also organized against Nazi operations. Throughout the game numerous armed guards, attack dogs, and mutant soldiers oppose the player. The buildings traversed contain health supplies in the form of food and medical kits, various treasures, and hidden rooms. There are four weapons (a knife and three guns) available throughout each episode for the player's defense. Wolfenstein 3D was released as shareware, which allowed it to be copied widely. The shareware release contains one episode, consisting of 10 missions. The commercial release consists of three episodes, which includes the shareware episode and its two subsequent episodes. Later releases included a three episode mission pack called The Nocturnal Missions. Like the shareware episode, each commercial episode contains 10 levels, bringing the game to a total of 60 missions. The game was originally released on the PC and subsequently ported to a wide range of computer systems and consoles. The protocol was designed by David Carver, the specification for version 2 of the protocol was written in July 1991. Its main use today is to rescale video playback in the video controller hardware, in order to enlarge a given video or to watch it in full screen mode. Without XVideo, X would have to do this scaling on the main CPU. That requires a considerable amount of processing power, sometimes to the point of slowing down/degrading the video stream, the video controller is specifically designed for this kind of computation, so can do it much more cheaply. Similarly, the X video extension has the video controller perform color space conversions. It can also have the controller change contrast, brightness and hue of a displayed video stream. In order for this to work, three things have to come together: The video controller has to provide the required functions. The device driver software for the video controller and the X server program have to implement the XVideo interface. The video playback software has to make use of this interface. Most modern video controllers provide the functions required for XVideo, the feature is known as hardware scaling and YUV acceleration or sometimes as 2D hardware acceleration. The XFree86 X server has implemented XVideo since version 4.0.2. To check whether a given X server supports XVideo, one can use the utility xdpyinfo. To check whether the video controller provides the required functions and whether the X device driver implements XVideo for any of them, one can use the xvinfo program.;Representation tool,Image viewer;Perception,Construction,Drawing,Document edition;Image,Document,Multimedia document;;;; Keyinpedia;2013/01/13 14:04:22;Keyinpedia;Keyinpedia is an online Chinese encyclopedia based in mainland China. According to the developer, other features include: the ability to create user-defined functions implementing logic and looping structures to be referenced in equation sets, the capacity to store multiple equation sets in one file (or session), providing an excellent tool for comparing results from different models, the Sweep function, which provides the capability of solving the system for a set of varying parameters and/or initial conditions, the ability to view solution results in a spreadsheet link data grid, or graphically on 2D and 3D graphs, the capacity for plotting any number and combination of variables and their functions, on 2D and 3D graphs, to produce component-vs-time, phase-plane or any type of user-defined graph. E-Z Solve offers some variety in numerical methods, including the Euler method, the Runge-Kutta (4,5) pair, Adams-Moulton orders 1-12 and BDF orders 1-5. (By comparison, MATLAB, offers only the Runge-Kutta and order methods). However, the processing capacity of E-Z Solve would be inadequate for anything but medium-scale projects, as the number of variables per session is limited to 50, and the number of first-order differential equations cannot exceed 30. Additionally, E-Z Solve has relatively obscure error messages, and it sometimes seems to struggle even with linear equations. A sample error message can be seen . The languages generated by context-free grammars are known as the context-free languages. Context-free grammars are important in linguistics for describing the structure of sentences and words in natural language, and in computer science for describing the structure of programming languages and other formal languages. In linguistics, some authors use the term phrase structure grammar to refer to context-free grammars, whereby phrase structure grammars are distinct from dependency grammars. In computer science, a popular notation for context-free grammars is BackusNaur Form, or BNF.;Compiler,Processing tool;Computation,Compilation;Executable code,Other artifact type;;;; Richard_Devine;2013/01/13 14:04:22;Richard_Devine;Richard Devine is an Atlanta-based electronic musician and sound designer. It is the successor of NetShow Encoder. As of October 2010, it is still available for download, but cannot be found in the Microsoft download search index: it has been replaced by a free version of Microsoft Expression Encoder. The Media 8 Encoding Utility is still listed. The latest version, Windows Media Encoder 9 Series, can encode video using Windows Media Video version 7, 8 or 9. Audio encoding uses a number of Windows Media Audio version 9.2 or version 10 (if the version 10 codecs are installed) profiles and a Windows Media Audio 9 Voice speech codec. Content can also be created as uncompressed audio or video. It is available in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions. Windows Media Encoder 9 Series enables two-pass encoding to optimize quality for on-demand content. It also supports variable bitrate (VBR) encoding for download-and-play scenarios. True VBR can be applied over the entire duration of a high-motion sequence, ensuring the highest quality. This version also enables scripted encoding with the wmcmd. vbs VBScript file allowing content developers to encode large numbers of prerecorded media files. Bundled with the program are the applications Windows Media File Editor, Windows Media Profile Editor, and Windows Media Stream Editor. WWR's listener-driven webcast and real-time interactive community distinguished it from other streaming webcasts, social music networks, and peer to peer music file sharing websites. Whole Wheat Radio was an online community radio station. Musical offerings ranged from independent singer/songwriters, to blues, to classical, to bluegrass and newgrass, to folk. Unscheduled live on-air banter, scheduled interviews, house concerts and spontaneous conversations were often broadcast live from Talkeetna. Though Jim Kloss hosted WWR from his home in Talkeetna, listeners controlled the music and other on-air content heard throughout the day through the website's request pages. Generally 15 to 50 listeners were tuned in at any given time with occasional spikes of up 90 concurrent listeners. Whole Wheat Radio webcast three streams. One was for low-speed listeners (24 kbit/s) with dial-up connections. The next was for medium-speed listeners (56 kbit/s) with DSL, cable or other fast connections. The third stream was for high-speed listeners (128 kbit/s) with reliably fast connections. All streams utilized mp3PRO audio technology for listeners whose players support it. (An mp3PRO 56 kbit/s stream is comparable in audio quality to a 128 kbit/s stream while requiring only one-half the bandwidth. ) To listen to the Whole Wheat Radio webcast, request songs and/or contribute to the wiki a listener needed only a computer, an internet connection, a software music player and a browser. Listening and participating were not operating system specific or proprietary. Popular music players such as Winamp, iTunes, and Windows Media Player could all be utilized as well as the Microsoft Windows, Linux and Macintosh operating systems. WWR's technological innovations facilitated the growth of a small virtual community that was driven by the audience and not station management. Known as Wheatheads, regular listeners interacted in an entirely wiki-based live collaboration room, request, rate and tag music, send original music, write to artists and create wiki pages. An example of technology reaching the world from a small rural town in Alaska, WWR's low-profile adult format succeeded without typical web advertising or competitive musical hype. Typically, WWR reached more SHOUTcast listeners on a daily basis than any other webcast originating in Alaska. http://yp. shoutcast. com/directory/?s=alaska The webcast ceased broadcasting on October 20, 2010.;Information management tool,Asynchronous tool,Wiki server,Group tool,Construction tool;Communication,Asynchronous communication,Construction,Information management task,Retrieving;Wiki document,Document;;;; Release_engineering;2013/01/13 14:04:22;Release_engineering;Release engineering, frequently abbreviated as ER, is a sub-discipline in software engineering concerned with the compilation, assembly, and delivery of source code into finished products or other software components. Associated with the software release life cycle, it is often said that release engineering is to software engineering as manufacturing is to an industrial process. While it is not the goal of release engineering to encumber software development with a process overlay, it is often seen as a sign of organizational and developmental maturity. Modern release engineering is concerned with several aspects of software production: Identifiability Being able to identify all of the source, tools, environment, and other components that make up a particular release Reproducibility the ability to integrate source, third party components, data, and deployment externals of a software system in order to guarantee operational stability. Consistency the mission to provide a stable framework for development, deployment, audit and accountability for software components. Agility the ongoing research into what are the repercussions of modern software engineering practices on the productivity in the software cycle, i.e. continuous integration and push on green initiatives. Release engineering is often the integration hub for more complex software development teams, sitting at the cross between development, product management, quality assurance and other engineering efforts, also known as DevOps. Release engineering teams are often cast in the role of gatekeepers (i.e. at Facebook, Google, Microsoft) for certain critical products where their judgement forms a parallel line of responsibility and authority in relation to production releases (pushes). Frequently, tracking of changes in a configuration management system or revision control system is part of the domain of the release engineer. The responsibility for creating and applying a version numbering scheme into softwareand tracking that number back to the specific source files to which it appliesoften falls onto the release engineer. Producing or improving automation in software production is usually a goal of the release engineer. Gathering, tracking, and supplying all the tools that are required to develop and build a particular piece of software may be a release engineering task, in order to reliably reproduce or maintain software years after its initial release to customers. While most software engineers, or software developers, do many or all of the above as a course of their work, in larger organizations the specialty of the release engineer can be applied to coordinate disparate source trees, projects, teams, and components. This frees the developers to implement features in the software and also frees the quality assurance engineers to more broadly and deeply test the produced software. The release engineer may provide software, services, or both to software engineering and software quality assurance teams. The software provided may be build tools, assembly, or other reorganization scripts which take compilation output and place them into a pre-defined tree structure, and even to the authoring and creation of installers for use by test teams or by the ultimate consumer of the software. The services provided may include software build (compilation) automation, automated test integration, results reporting, and production of or preparation for software delivery systemse.g. , in the form of electronic media (CDs, DVDs) or electronic software distribution mechanisms.;Processing tool,Compiler;Computation,Compilation;Executable code,Other artifact type;;;; NAFEMS;2013/01/13 14:04:22;NAFEMS;NAFEMS is an independent, not-for-profit organisation that sets and maintains standards in computer-aided engineering analysis and, specifically, finite element analysis (FEA).;Representation tool,Image viewer;Construction,Document edition,Perception,Drawing;Image,Document,Multimedia document;;;; SmallBASIC;2013/01/13 14:04:22;SmallBASIC;SmallBASIC is a BASIC programming language dialect with interpreters released as free software under the GNU General Public License version 2.;Compiler,Processing tool;Computation,Compilation;Executable code,Other artifact type;;;Open source; Construct_(python_library);2013/01/13 14:04:22;Construct_(python_library);Construct is a python library for the construction and deconstruction of data structures in a declarative fashion. In this context, construction, or building, refers to the process of converting a programmatic object into a binary representation. Deconstruction, or parsing, refers to the opposite process of converting (deserializing) binary data into a programmatic object. Being declarative means user code defines the only the data structure, instead of the convention of writing procedural code to accomplish the goal. Construct can work seamlessly with bit- and byte-level data granularity and various byte-ordering. Using declarative code has many benefits. For example, the same code that can parse can also build (symmetrical), debugging and testing are much simpler (provable to some extent), creating new constructs is easy (wrapping components), and many more. It is a way to check quality before printing, digitally or otherwise, but can also be used to check any common artwork file. Preflight may be done on the source desktop publishing document, or before creating a Portable Document Format (PDF) file. The term preflight was first used during a presentation in 1990 by Chuck Weger, a well known industry consultant. There were some early postscript RIPs that interpreted data and provided a preflight report of sorts. The first commercial preflight application, called FlightCheck, was introduced to the public by Markzware http://www. markzware. com and appeared at the Seybold Seminars Conference at San Francisco in the Fall of 1995. Verilog simulation software has come a long way since its early origin as a single proprietary product offered by one company. Today, Verilog simulators are available from many vendors, at all price points. For desktop/personal use, Aldec, Mentor, LogicSim, SynaptiCAD, and others offer &lt,$5000 USD tool-suites for the Windows 2000/XP platform. The suites bundle the simulator engine with a complete development environment: text editor, waveform viewer, and RTL-level browser. Additionally, limited-functionality editions of the Aldec and ModelSim simulator are downloadable free of charge, from their respective OEM partners (Actel, Altera, Lattice Semiconductor, Xilinx, etc. ) For those desiring open-source software, there is Icarus Verilog, among others. Beyond the desktop level, enterprise-level simulators offer faster simulation runtime, more robust support for mixed-language simulation, and most importantly, are validated for timing-accurate (SDF-annotated) gate-level simulation. The last point is critical for the ASIC tapeout process, when a design-database is released to manufacturing. (Semiconductor foundries stipulate the usage of tools chosen from an approved list, in order for the customer's design to receive signoff status. Although the customer is not required to perform any signoff checking, the tremendous cost of a wafer order has generally ensured thorough design-validation on the part of the customer. ) The three major signoff-grade simulators include Cadence Incisive Enterprise Simulator, Mentor ModelSim/SE, and Synopsys VCS. Pricing is not published publicly, but all three vendors charge $25,000-$100,000 USD per seat, 1-year time-based license. FPGA vendors do not require expensive enterprise simulators for their design flow. In fact, most vendors include an OEM version of a third-party HDL simulator in their design suite. The bundled simulator is taken from an entry-level or low-capacity edition, and bundled with the FPGA vendor's device libraries. For designs targeting high-capacity FPGA, a standalone simulator is recommended, as the OEM-version may lack the capacity or speed to effectively handle large designs. Below is a list of simulators that implement the Verilog hardware description language.;Representation tool,Image viewer;Perception,Drawing,Document edition,Construction;Image,Document,Multimedia document;;;; Yahoo!_Video;2013/01/13 14:04:22;Yahoo!_Video;Yahoo! The show is Nicktoons's first original half-hour series, bought during the same period as other Animation Collective series such as Three Delivery and Speed Racer: The Next Generation, as well as Flash shows from other studios, such as Edgar & Ellen and The Secret Show, though the latter was made from BBC. The series premiered on February 25, 2006, as Nickelodeon aired several reruns and premieres as a promotional movement from August 20, 2006 to January 2007. The series is MTV's first global acquisition, and is currently available on iTunes. Kappa Mikey was marketed as the first anime to be produced entirely in the United States, according to press releases from MTV, Nicktoons Network, and various other sources, as the term anime in English is generally reserved for animation originally produced for the Japanese market. It uses Japanese animation and culture as inspiration for its concept, rather than being true anime. As a matter of fact, the series is a homage/parody of Japanese anime. On February 16, 2008, during their Music Week, Nicktoons Network aired their first and only original television movie, an hour-long Kappa Mikey musical entitled Kappa Karaoke. Officially, the episode's title is The Karaoke Episode. The last three episodes aired after the show was stuck on a hiatus. These episodes were aired in September 2008, and declared the season (series) finale after September 20.;Image viewer,Representation tool;Drawing,Construction,Document edition,Perception;Image,Document,Multimedia document;;;; OwnCloud;2013/01/13 14:04:22;OwnCloud;ownCloud is a software suite that provides a location-independent storage area for data. Methods of measuring cohesion vary from qualitative measures classifying the source text being analyzed using a rubric with a hermeneutics approach to quantitative measures which examine textual characteristics of the source code to arrive at a numerical cohesion score. Cohesion is an ordinal type of measurement and is usually expressed as high cohesion or low cohesion when being discussed. Modules with high cohesion tend to be preferable because high cohesion is associated with several desirable traits of software including robustness, reliability, reusability, and understandability whereas low cohesion is associated with undesirable traits such as being difficult to maintain, difficult to test, difficult to reuse, and even difficult to understand. Cohesion is often contrasted with coupling, a different concept. Nonetheless high cohesion often correlates with loose coupling, and vice versa. The software quality metrics of coupling and cohesion were invented by Larry Constantine based on characteristics of good programming practices that reduced maintenance and modification costs.;Processing tool,Compiler;Computation,Compilation;Executable code,Other artifact type;;;; Madhyam;2013/01/13 14:04:22;Madhyam;Madhyam is a Devanagari word processor that complies with the InScript Devanagari Text Input Standard authenticated by the Government of India, the Unicode Consortium and Bureau of Indian Standards. It adds a series of analyses that are particularly useful for RF circuits to the basic capabilities of Spectre. SpectreRF was first released in 1996 and was notable for three reasons. First, it was arguably the first RF simulator in that it was the first to be designed for large bipolar and CMOS RF circuits, it used shooting methods as its base algorithm, and it pioneered the use of Krylov subspace methods . The use of shooting methods gave SpectreRF remarkable robustness and the Krylov methods gave it capacity that was roughly 100 times greater than existing simulators at the time. Previously such simulators were designed to simulate very small GaAs integrated circuits and hybrids. These simulators were based on harmonic balance and could reliably simulate circuits with tens of transistors whereas SpectreRF could simulate circuits with thousands of transistors. SpectreRF added the Periodic Steady State and Periodic small-signal analyses to Spectre. The Periodic Steady-State or PSS analysis directly computed the periodic steady-state response of a circuit. The periodic small-signal analyses use the periodic steady-state solution as a periodically time-varying operating point and linearize the circuit about that operating point and then computes the response of the circuit to small perturbation sources. Effectively they build a periodically time-varying linear model of the circuit. This is significant as periodically time-varying linear models, unlike the time-invariant linear models used by the traditional small-signal analyses (AC and noise) exhibit frequency conversion. SpectreRF pioneered a variety of periodic small-signal analyses, including periodic AC (pac), periodic noise (pnoise), periodic transfer function (pxf), periodic s-parameter (psp) and periodic stability (pstb). After its introduction, SpectreRF quickly became the dominant simulator for RF integrated circuits, and was instrumental in establishing Spectre as the most popular circuit simulator for integrated circuits. Eventually the dominance of SpectreRF faded as the use of Krylov subspace methods propagated to other simulators, particularly those based on harmonic balance. SpectreRF now provides harmonic balance in addition to shooting methods, both of which are accelerated using Krylov subspace methods. SpectreRF was developed by Ken Kundert, Jacob White, and Ricardo Telichevesky.;Representation tool,Image viewer;Perception,Construction,Drawing,Document edition;Image,Document,Multimedia document;;;; N-version_programming;2013/01/13 14:04:22;N-version_programming;N-version programming (NVP), also known as multiversion programming, is a method or process in software engineering where multiple functionally equivalent programs are independently generated from the same initial specifications. The leading VIPP programmer/developer is allegedly Dave Newton of Mansfield, Nottinghamshire currently plying his trade at Linney's, a Print and Print Management company. VIPP was originally called XGF and it is simply groups of PostScript dictionaries which provide macros that simplify writing of complex PostScript commands. PostScript is powerful language which allows variable data printing and personalization of the data stream if the user inserted the right commands in the right position. To implement some of these features a programmer has to write a few, or sometimes many, lines of code. Xerox developed macro procedures in PostScript language dictionaries to facilitate page control with simple commands. For example, To merge form (graphic form) with the data stream you need to understand and write a great deal of Adobe PostScript commands according to the Adobe PostScript Language Reference Manual (PLRM, otherwise known as the 'Red' book). Xerox gives you this feature through this simple command (formname) SETFORM, where formname is the name of the form accessible from the Xerox printer controller (DocuSP or FreeFlow Print Server). Several VIPP commands are identical to PostScript commands. VIPP was originally written by couple of Xerox systems Analysts in Switzerland to enable the highest speed Postscript Printers, at that time 50 pages per minute, to have the features of Xerox's famous production printing languages PDL and FDL (Xerox proprietary printing languages) which provide simple variable data printing. With the success of the personal efforts of these Analyst(s) Xerox Corporation adopted the idea and developed their work by putting these procedures on Sun Microsystems hosts where the Adobe interpreter also resides. Together, these modules give complete control over the printing engine and data stream. VIPP can be used in four different modes: Database mode, Line mode, XML mode and Native mode. In Database mode, the programmer can quickly implement a printing solution, for example a billing application, for a delimited database file. In Line mode, an existing print application can be enhanced with form overlays, font selection, color and other features offered by modern laser printers. In XML mode, an XML file can be turned into a readable document. In all modes, VIPP offers conditional logic manipulation of the data. For example a multi-page bill could be printed in duplex (two-sided) mode with the first page selected from a paper tray loaded with a perforated sheet for remittance return, have the back side printed with disclosures and instructions, while subsequent pages of billing detail are printed on plain paper. The VIPP programmer might even insert an OCR (Optical Character Recognition) or MICR (Magnetic Ink Character Recognition) line for remittance processing, complete with a check digit. Xerox markets an Interactive Developer's Environment (IDE) for VIPP (FreeFlow VI Designer), Lytrod http://www. lytrod. com/ and FreeFlow VIPP Pro Publisher http://www. xerox. com/digital-printing/workflow/freeflow/vipp-pro-publisher/enus. html that helps a programmer code applications rapidly in VIPP. FreeFlow VIPP Pro Publisher is a plugin to the popular Adobe InDesign product enabling WYSIWYG VIPP development http://www. veedeepee. com/2008/03/vipp_pro_publisher_1. html. VIPP is licensed to specific printer controllers running a Solaris (FreeFlow Print Server) or MS/Windows operating systems, including some PostScript capable office devices that have non-volatile memory (such as a hard drive). Basically VIPP is capable of being installed on any device which has a PostScript interpreter http://www. adobe. com/products/postscript/overview. html. It was launched in 2010 by technology startup company MiMedia, LLC, based in Port Chester, New York. MiMedia is similar to a number of other backup services, such as Mozy, Carbonite, and Dropbox. As well as traditional file uploads, MiMedia allows users to back up files using physical media via a 'Shuttle Drive'. This is a portable hard drive that is mailed to users as part of the subscription cost. Once returned the files are then transferred to MiMedia's servers directly, avoiding potential bottlenecks arising from typically low upload speeds on broadband connections. Files can then be accessed, and streamed with no downloads needed, from any internet-enabled device. In 2011, MiMedia announced partnerships with BlueTunes and DiJiFi that allow customers from both sites to back up their respective music files and digital photographs to a MiMedia account. Attribute evaluation in S-attributed grammars can be incorporated conveniently in both top-down parsing and bottom-up parsing. Specifications for parser generators in the Yacc family can be broadly considered S-attributed grammars. OPL is also included in Psion Teklogix industrial handhelds such as the Workabout mx. OPL is an interpreted language similar to BASIC. A fully Visual Basic-compatible language OVAL has been also developed. The language was originally called Organiser Programming Language developed by Psion Ltd for the Psion Organiser. The first implementation (without graphics) was for the original Psion Organiser (now referred to as the Psion Organiser I, 1984) and came bundled with the Science, Finance and Math datapaks. It became truly accessible as built in software in the Psion Organiser II (1986) and the language went on to be used in the Psion Series 3 and later. After Psion retired from the PDA market, the project was changed to open source and the acronym was re-interpreted. The language is now developed on SourceForge in the opl-dev project. To the grievance of the large OPL developer community, the language is not available from Symbian OS v8 and later, mainly due to lack of interest and support from major Symbian licencees Nokia and Sony Ericsson. Hence, OPL will most likely never be made available for the newer generation of Symbian OS phones such as Sony Ericsson P990, M600, W950, P1i and Nokia E61i and E90. The main point of this system is to allow applications to interoperate, and to share complex tasks. Essentially, DCOP is a remote control system, which allows an application or a script to enlist the help of other applications. It is built on top of the X Window Systems Inter-Client Exchange protocol. The use of DCOP provides extensive new capabilities, without requiring entirely new applications to be written, as might otherwise be the case. KDE applications and the KDE libraries make heavy use of DCOP and most of the KDE applications can be controlled by scripts via the DCOP mechanism. DCOP was replaced by D-Bus in KDE Software Compilation 4. In modern KDE systems, every KDE application supports a basic set of DCOP interfaces, even if the programmer of the application did not explicitly code in such support. For instance, every application automatically supports the quit command to close the application. There is a command-line tool called dcop (note the lower-case letters) that can be used for communication with the applications from the shell. kdcop is a GUI tool to explore the interfaces of an application. For example, the KDE desktop provides a way to display different wallpapers at timed intervals. However, it does not directly provide an interface for changing to the next wallpaper, if the current one does not fit your mood. Neither does it provide a way of permanently removing desktop wallpapers that you decide you do not like, after seeing them as actual wallpaper on your screen. These features can be added in a few moments, however, using dcop. The command: $ dcop kdesktop KBackgroundIface changeWallpaper will switch to the next wallpaper from a shell, and the command: $ dcop kdesktop KBackgroundIface currentWallpaper 1 will get the filename of the wallpaper on desktop 1. (KDE, and most X environments, support multiple virtual desktops for organizing work. ) By combining the two in a short shell script, you can switch to the next wallpaper, then delete the previous wallpaper, like so: OLDWALLPAPER=`dcop kdesktop KBackgroundIface currentWallpaper 1` dcop kdesktop KBackgroundIface changeWallpaper rm $OLDWALLPAPER As you can see, DCOP makes it possible to add new features that were never envisaged when an application was first created.;Representation tool,Image viewer;Perception,Document edition,Drawing,Construction;Image,Document,Multimedia document;;;; Pointer_analysis;2013/01/13 14:04:22;Pointer_analysis;In computer science pointer analysis, or points-to analysis, is a static code analysis technique that establishes which pointers, or heap references, can point to which variables or storage locations. AGI-based computer games accept typed commands via keyboard, as well as joystick input. In 1983, IBM commissioned Sierra On-Line to develop a game that would showcase the technical capabilities of the IBM PCjr, a home computer which IBM planned to release the following year. To meet the challenge, game designer Roberta Williams scripted a game that was to become King's Quest: Quest for the Crown, and lead developer Arthur Abraham developed a custom programming language called Game Assembly Language. After Sierra dismissed Abraham, IBM contributed to the development of King's Quest's game engine in order to help ensure the project's success. The PCjr proved unpopular in the marketplace, and the May 1984 launch of King's Quest foundered. Nevertheless, later that year Tandy Corporation released the Tandy 1000, another IBM PC compatible that had originally been designed as an enhanced clone of the PCjr and which succeeded where the PCjr failed. King's Quest caused a sensation in the burgeoning market of PC-compatible computers, and Sierra eventually sold more than half a million copies. Roberta Williams' King's Quest established a new type of interactive adventure game, and Sierra named their new game engine the Adventure Game Interpreter. Following the success of King's Quest, they ported the game (AGI included) to other computing platforms, such as the Apple II, Apple II, Apple Macintosh, Amiga and Atari ST. Although the 160x200 display resolution of AGI-based games was tailored for the PCjr, it persisted as an AGI standard on other platforms as well. However, Sierra adapted the color palette for other video hardware. In 1988, with the release of King's Quest IV: The Perils of Rosella, Sierra debuted a more sophisticated proprietary game engine: Sierra's Creative Interpreter, or SCI. Since the SCI engine required a more powerful home computer, Sierra released an AGI version of the game at the same time. However, Sierra overestimated consumer demand for the lesser version, and ceased production. The following year, Sierra published its final AGI-based title, Manhunter 2: San Francisco, then focused exclusively on SCI for new adventure game development. Among SCI's enhancements were a more versatile scripting system, an object-oriented programming model, higher-resolution graphics (320x200 rather than 160x200), a point-and-click interface, and support for additional sound card hardware.;Image viewer,Representation tool;Document edition,Drawing,Perception,Construction;Image,Document,Multimedia document;;;; Boxxy;2013/01/13 14:04:22;Boxxy;Catherine Catie Wayne (born April 28, 1992), better known as the character Boxxy, is an American Internet celebrity known for her highly energetic vlogs. Gerald Jay Sussman and Guy L. Steele, Jr. coined the phrase in AI Memo 349 (1975), which sets out the first version of the Scheme programming language. A function written in continuation-passing style takes as an extra argument: an explicit continuation i.e. a function of one argument. When the CPS function has computed its result value, it returns it by calling the continuation function with this value as the argument. That means that when invoking a CPS function, the calling function is required to supply a procedure to be invoked with the subroutine's return value. Expressing code in this form makes a number of things explicit which are implicit in direct style. These include: procedure returns, which become apparent as calls to a continuation, intermediate values, which are all given names, order of argument evaluation, which is made explicit, and tail calls, which is simply calling a procedure with the same continuation, unmodified, that was passed to the caller. Programs can be automatically transformed from direct style to CPS. Functional and logic compilers often use CPS as an intermediate representation where a compiler for an imperative or procedural programming language would use static single assignment form (SSA), however, SSA and CPS are equivalent. SSA is formally equivalent to a well-behaved subset of CPS (excluding non-local control flow, which does not occur when CPS is used as intermediate representation). Functional compilers can also use Administrative Normal Form (ANF) instead of or in conjunction with CPS. CPS is used more frequently by compilers than by programmers as a local or global style.;Compiler,Processing tool;Compilation,Computation;Executable code,Other artifact type;;;; Feature_creep;2013/01/13 14:04:22;Feature_creep;Feature creep, creeping featurism or featuritis is the ongoing expansion or addition of new features in a product, such as in computer software. Usually, it involves digital data being transformed into physical letter items at distributed print centres located as close as possible to the final delivery addresses. An email letter (also L-mail and letter mail is a letter which sent as an email using a computer then printed out and delivered as a traditional letter. It is a communication means between the virtual cyber- and the material real world. The printer or mail transfer agent prints the electronic mail on paper, the mail transport agent packs it into an envelope and the mail delivery agent or postman delivers it to the receiver's mailbox. Generally there is a fee for this service, however very small amounts and single email letters may be free of charge depending on the service provider. There is some evidence that posts are increasingly using hybrid mail solutions in the developing world to leapfrog historic lack of investment in up-to-date infrastructure and service quality. This is similar to a country without an extensive land line phone network moving directly to a mobile phone network. Developments in technology are often used by private companies to fill gaps in public postal service. In the UK, there has been a mushrooming of service providers because of the particular regulatory conditions which require Royal Mail to offer advantageous downstream access postal rates to providers of hybrid services. An example of a hybrid mailing system is imail provided by the UK Mail Group. There are also reverse systems, where handwritten letters can be delivered as email. This mail scanning service, sometimes called letter email, is increasingly popular with businesses and individuals who wish to access their mail from another country. However, special care must be taken to inspect local laws and the service provider's scanning practices to ensure that they are not reading the mail or acting on behalf of the client from a legal standpoint.;Information management tool,Construction tool,Representation tool,E-mail client;Asynchronous communication,Message composition,Retrieving,Perception,Construction,Message viewing,Communication,Information management task;e-mail message,Generic forum message ,Message;;;; Jogre;2013/01/13 14:04:22;Jogre;JOGRE (pronounced Joe-ger) is the acronym for Java Online Gaming Real-time Engine. The new side contains all of Zoravia's new buildings and structures. Zoravia is a proud and independent country. Fountain Park, IL were drawn to Zoravia's glamorous lifestyle and changed their name to Zoravia IL. In the beginning, King Hector was the king of Zoravia. Hector died fifteen years ago. That's when Lubek took the throne, but because he was also the head of the spy agency - he was hated by the people as much as his younger brother was loved. The citizens of Zoravia created a voting booth to elect a new king. Lubek or his younger brother Karl. Karl won the election by a landslide. Even though Karl won, Lubek wouldn't stop trying to become king. Lubek moved outside of the country and launched a series of attacks towards Zoravia. These attacks lead to the conclusion of a secret spy sneaking over to the United States and stopping Lubek. Princess Natasha was standing next to her father and suggested herself. The King wasn't sure, but after a few promising words he decided to let her go. When she arrived in the states, she was greeted by the O'Brien family. The O'Brien family had four people living previously in it, Natasha made five. the family includes Mrs. O'Brien, Mr. O'Brien, K.C. , And Greg. The moment Natasha met Greg she immediately developed a crush on him. Her first day of High School was very awkward. She met a girl named Maya, Maya soon became her best friend. Natasha and Oleg fight Lubek with his team mates. Natasha and Oleg win pretty easily every time. Natasha's peers don't notice the resemblance between her and the princess. Garry's Mod was originally a modification for Valve's Half-Life 2, but was later made into a Steam game that was officially released on November 29, 2006.;Representation tool,Image viewer;Perception,Construction,Drawing,Document edition;Image,Document,Multimedia document;;;;Facepunch Studios 5D_BIM;2013/01/13 14:04:22;5D_BIM;5D BIM, an acronym for 5D Building Information Modeling and a term widely used in the CAD industry, refers to the intelligent linking of individual 3D CAD components or assemblies with schedule (time) constraint and cost-related information. The use of the term 5D is intended to refer to the addition of fourth dimension: time and fifth dimension: cost to the 3D model, i.e. 5D is 3D + schedule (time) + cost. The construction of the 5D models enables the various participants (from designers, contractors to owners) of a construction project, to visualize the progression of construction activities and its related costs over time. A sequel to the award-winning 1998 video game StarCraft and its expansion set, the game was released worldwide on July 27, 2010. It is split into three installments: the base game with the subtitle Wings of Liberty, and two upcoming expansion packs, Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void. Set in the 26th century in a distant part of the Milky Way galaxy, the game revolves around three species: the Terrans, human exiles from Earth, the Zerg, a super-species of assimilated life forms, and the Protoss, a technologically advanced species with vast mental powers. Wings of Liberty focuses on the Terrans, while the expansions Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void will focus on the Zerg and Protoss, respectively. The game is set four years after the events of 1998's StarCraft: Brood War, and follows the exploits of Jim Raynor as he leads an insurgent group against the autocratic Terran Dominion. The game includes both new and returning characters and locations from the original game. The game was met with very positive reviews from critics, receiving an aggregated score of 93% from Metacritic. Similar to its predecessor, StarCraft II was praised for its engaging gameplay, as well as its introduction of new features and improved storytelling. The game was criticized for lacking features that existed in the original StarCraft game including LAN play and a single multiplayer region. At the time of its release, Starcraft II became the fastest selling real-time strategy game of all time, with over three million copies sold worldwide in the first month.;Representation tool,Image viewer;Drawing,Construction,Perception,Document edition;Image,Document,Multimedia document;;;; Noweb;2013/01/13 14:04:22;Noweb;noweb is a literate programming tool, created in 19891999 by Norman Ramsey, and designed to be simple, easily extensible and language independent. For example Alice wants to talk to Bob. Alice requests to start a connection to Bob and a service manager takes in the requests and chooses the best way to communicate to Bob (depending on telephone number, e-mail address, etc. ), and opens up a connection to Bob. It provides network storage combined with asynchronously replicated off-site cloud storage. The company produces hardware appliances which are installed in the local network and backup data offsite, and management software for service providers. CTERA markets cloud storage gateways that use traditional file-based protocols to provide cached cloud storage. Local network computers are automatically backed up to the CTERA appliances on the LAN, which then perform incremental backups to an off-site deduplicated cloud storage service, compressing and encrypting the data as it is transmitted. Users have browser-based access to the backups and can access files locally using a Virtual Cloud Drive. Users can also throttle bandwidth and schedule transfers off working hours for reducing impact on the network performance. CTERA appliances encrypt data onsite and keep the keys local, reduce latency by caching data or keeping local copies, and provide snapshot capabilities for data availability. CTERA is also the developer of Next3, an open source journaled file system for Linux.
